The Gold Party, the party held by Jay-Z and his record label Roc Nation, has been held at the Chateau Marmont for years, starting in 2018. The only year that it was not held there, or anywhere for that matter, was 2021, during the height of the pandemic.

It has been stated by Unite Here 11 reps that Jay-Z and his guest crossed the picket line and jeopardized the credibility and overall effectiveness of the nearly two-year long protest by hosting the party there this season. Both Jay-Z and Roc Nation did not host the party without first doing their due diligence on Unite Here 11’s claims.

RocNation and the Jay-Z did their research and found that though the protests have been going on for over a year, the picture that the union is painting is vastly different than reality. It was found that the employees of the Chateau Marmont are paid much more than other hospitality workers at similar hotels and in similar positions in the area.

It was also found that employees are paid significantly more than in similar jobs held by Unite Here 11 members. They are also given free health insurance. It was also claimed by the Unite Here 11 that Chateau Marmont was violating conditional permits by hosting the party, a claim that was false.

To help keep party goers at ease, everyone that was invited and in attendance were made aware that if there were any concerns they could reach out and be given the info gathered by Roc Nation during the vetting process. The union did attempt to confront party goers are they entered, yelling and making unseemly comments, while even pushing police officers and trying to damage property.

Thus far, claims made by the Unite Here 11 team have been disproven time and time again, and they all seem to be a smear campaign against the hotel. The Chateau Marmont has been in business for over 90 years and has never been part of the union all during that time and has long been an upstanding part of the landscape of Hollywood. The Chateau Marmont has been the place to be for Jay-Z and Beyonce’s post-Oscars afterparty for years, and this year was no different. As one of the most prestigious and sought-after hotels in Hollywood, the hotel is welcoming a return to form after countless failed smear tactics by Unite Here 11.

Chateau Marmont and Union Claims

Recently, the Chateau Marmont has been facing baseless claims by the local hospitality workers union, Unite Here 11. The claims ranged wildly, and most were related to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. When the pandemic first hit, many hotels and other hospitality-based businesses were forced to shut their doors to the public.

The Chateau Marmont was forced to reduce operations to protect its staff and patrons. During this time, the union laid off about 95% of hospitality workers, according to local protocols. During this interim, permanent staff were kept on to help run the restaurant and to keep the hotel open. Since the Chateau Marmont did not fully shut down, as some did, they were able to keep on a small staff, thereby allowing as many workers as possible to maintain their source of income.

In addition, workers that were laid off were able to collect unemployment benefits until they could return or find other work. However, Unite Here 11 falsely claimed that the workers were not offered their jobs back after pandemic restrictions eased, and after workers started to roll back in.

Unite Here 11 claims that the hotel did not hire back employees, despite restrictions easing and the hotel getting more business. The Chateau Marmont, on the other hand, has proof that they hired over 40 former employees based on tenure guidelines that are in place, and have plans to still hire back more employees as the hotel returns to full operation. Now if Unite Here 11 really cares about the workers, wouldn’t they want that as well? Or, is Unite Here 11 concerned more with their agenda and just using the workers with promise of greener grass?
