Film Review: Fun and Uproarious ‘Teen Titans Go! To the Movies'

CHICAGO – If a good laugh is golden, then “Teen Titans Go! To the Movies” is worth its weight. Although the meta-make-fun of superhero movies have already been done almost to death (Deadpool?), the Titans have been doing it on the Cartoon Network since 2013, and take it to a new level in their movie adventure.

Interview: Adam Scott Wants Everyone There For ‘The Overnight’

CHICAGO – Adam Scott has become familiar to audiences through his five year run as Ben Wyatt on TV’s “Parks and Recreation,” but he is also creating a presence on the big screen, with various supporting roles in big films (“The Secret Life of Walter Mitty”) and his latest comedy, “The Overnight.”

Blu-ray Review: Remarkable Breadth of Modern Animation in New Releases

The LEGO Movie with Will Ferrell

Remember when we were growing up? We were LUCKY if we got a decent animated film once a year in the ’80s and we spent most of our Saturday mornings watching total junk that now passes as nostalgia. We can say that music, film, or even literature was better when we younger. Animation? No way. Just take a look at four recent releases of the animated form that perfectly show the breadth and remarkable quality of the medium (and, yes, animation is a “form,” not a “genre.”)

Blu-Ray Review: ‘Robot Chicken: Star Wars Episode III’

Robot Chicken Star Wars III

CHICAGO – Is it wrong to say that I prefer the three “Robot Chicken” specials that spoof the “Star Wars” franchise more than the prequel trilogy? Heck, I enjoy the “Family Guy” trilogy of “Star Wars” take-offs more, so I suppose that’s not surprising. In all seriousness, these are very funny specials and the latest was recently released on Blu-ray with an abundance of special features. Don’t miss it.

Blu-Ray Review: Cartoon Network Offers ‘Venture Bros.,’ ‘Firebreather’

Venture Bros. Season 4

CHICAGO – My love for “Venture Bros.” is well-documented. It’s one of the funnier cartoons of the last decade and I recently complained about the half-season released only on DVD. I apologize. Now that the whole recent season is available on Blu-ray all is right with the world. And Cartoon Network has released another animated adventure to piggy back on one of their best shows in the intriguing “Firebreather.”

DVD Review: ‘Batman: The Brave and the Bold: Season One, Part One’

Batman: The Brave and the Bold

CHICAGO –It’s often surprising what the powers that be decide will be pushed as the next superhero property but one of the biggest of the moment is clearly “Batman: The Brave and the Bold,” the Cartoon Network series that will be the focus of an upcoming video game, toys now available at McDonalds, and last week’s DVD release of thirteen exciting episodes from the hit show.

Interview: 30 Rock’s Scott Adsit Goes Down the ‘Frankenhole’

CHICAGO – Last Sunday, June 27th, a new Cartoon Network show on Adult Swim premiered, by the same team that gave us “Morel Orel.” “Mary Shelley’s Frankenhole” is also produced, directed and written by Chicago area native Scott Adsit, who also does time as the harried Pete Hornberger on NBC’s “30 Rock.”

DVD Review: ‘Robot Chicken: Star Wars Episode II’ Delivers Laughs

Robot Chicken Star Wars II

CHICAGO – Who would have guessed that some of the best “Star Wars”-related material of the ’00s would be produced by Seth Green? And yet, there’s no denying that a lot of what Green delivers with “Robot Chicken: Star Wars Episode II” is smarter than a majority of the product coming out of the Lucas machine. Check out the special, now on DVD, and see for yourself.

DVD Round Up, April 21, 2009: ‘Skins,’ ‘Squidbillies,’ ‘The Burrowers’

Burrowers

CHICAGO – Things are a little light in the world of the DVD Round-Up, HollywoodChicago.com’s popular feature that grabs titles that may have fallen through the cracks while you were busy refreshing your Netflix queue to see if “The Reader,” “Frost/Nixon,” and “The Wrestler” are going to ever be shipped your way.

DVD Round Up, Mar. 31, 2009: ‘Shuttle,’ ‘Donkey Punch,’ ‘Cracker,’ ‘Clone Wars’

Clone Wars

CHICAGO – Two TV shows and two indie horror movies comprise the final edition of the infamous HollywoodChicago.com Round-Up for March. Both shows already have cult followings and the movies are likely to build ones of their own.
