Romero’s “The Crazies,” but this preview totally works and we just had to share. Starring Timothy Olyphant, Radha Mitchell, Danielle Panabaker, Preston Bailey, and Joe Anderson. It was written by Scott Kosar and Ray Wright and directed by Breck Eisner (“Sahara”). The film opens on February 26th, 2010.

CHICAGO – Magnolia sent over the new trailer for the epic and remarkable “Red Cliff” from the legendary director John Woo. Already a massive hit in China, “Red Cliff” opens in theatres next month and the preview is already building stateside buzz. Check it out.

Synopsis: “Legendary action cinema master John Woo and international superstar Tony Leung reunite for the first time since the 1992 classic HARD BOILED with this epic historical drama set based on a legendary 208 A.D. battle that heralded the end of the Han Dynasty. CHICAGO – Sony sent over the brand-new preview for “The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day,” the highly anticipated sequel that opens on October 30th, 2009. CHICAGO – The new movie trailer and poster for the upcoming comedy “Youth in Revolt” with Michael Cera have been released and appear below for your indulgence.

“Youth in Revolt” stars Michael Cera, Zach Galifianakis, Justin Long, Ray Liotta, Steve Buscemi, Fred Willard and newcomer Portia Doubleday from director Miguel Arteta (who directed 2002’s “The Good Girl” with Jennifer Aniston) and the cult-hit novel of the same name by C.D. Payne.

CHICAGO – The next trailer for “The Twilight Saga: New Moon,” the highly anticipated sequel to “Twilight,” launches with theatrical presentations of “Bandslam” on August 14th, 2009, but we have a sneak preview for you right now.

Cast members in “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” include Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner, Ashley Greene, Dakota Fanning, and Michael Sheen.

Blu-Ray Review: ‘Paul Blart: Mall Cop’ With Kevin James a Massive Comedy Hit

CHICAGO – Being a big fan of Kevin James and his underrated sitcom “The King of Queens” and marveling at the massive box office for Steve Carr’s “Paul Blart: Mall Cop,” I approached the Blu-Ray release of this hit title with cautious optimism. I’m still very happy for the talented James, but he deserves better than this slapstick-y and inconsistent comedy.

Blu-Ray Rating: 2.5/5.0

James plays the title character, a mild-mannered, sweet guy who dreams of becoming a State Trooper but his hypoglycemia has kept him a mall cop. Paul is a single father, close to his mother, bullied by the more popular employees at the mall, and the rare person who is overly kind to strangers. He’s incredibly easy to root for.

So, when Paul spots a new kiosk employee (Jayma Mays) at the cleverly-named “Unbeweavable” wig stand, the audience naturally roots for the big fella to get the cute girl. But what first seems like an awkward romantic comedy becomes more of a farce when the most inept group of movie criminals in a long time decide to take over Blart’s mall on Black Friday, the shopping day after Thanksgiving. The only thing in their way is a rotund security guard on a Segway.

To accurately judge “Paul Blart: Mall Cop,” one must certainly consider its target audience. This is a family movie. Don’t ignore the PG rating. I think pre-teen kids will enjoy watching it with their parents and that’s not an overly common mainstream film. That’s why the movie made a truckload of cash (an amazing $146 million domestically, more than the last five movies from its star producer Adam Sandler). In a season of high-brow Oscar fare, “Paul Blart: Mall Cop” was the perfect alternative for the entire family. In retrospect, it makes perfect sense.

Now, an admirable and under-served demographic is one thing but I couldn’t shake the feeling that “Paul Blart: Mall Cop” could have and should have been better. For the adults in the audience, it’s just not that funny. It’s too farcical, none of the characters outside Blart are given anything to do (Bobby Cannavale is laughably bad), and it doesn’t play to James’ comic timing. He’s better than this material.

“Paul Blart: Mall Cop” is one of those movies that’s hard to hate but not funny enough to love. I’m very happy that the movie made Kevin James a star but it only hints at what he can do with a better script and more competent, less generic direction.

The Sony Blu-Ray for “Paul Blart: Mall Cop” produced a similar critical shrug from me as the movie. The video and audio are service-able but not notable and the special features are predictable and kind of on the light side for such a hit film. All that’s included are deleted scenes, “Fun on Set,” and “Stunts,” along with some BD-Live features like “Cinechat” and a digital copy of the film.

“Paul Blart: Mall Cop,” the film and the Blu-Ray/DVD, could have been a lot worse but I think we’ll soon discover that Kevin James can deliver a lot more than this so-so comedy and so-so Blu-Ray release.

CHICAGO – The trailer for the highly anticipated musical “Nine” was released today and you really must take a look. Starring Daniel Day-Lewis, Penelope Cruz, Marion Cotillard, Nicole Kidman, Judi Dench, Kate Hudson, Fergie, and Sophia Loren, and directed by Rob Marshall (“Chicago”), “Nine” feels like the first trailer for a likely major Oscar candidate for 2009.

The official synopsis courtesy of Apple: ““NINE” is a vibrant and provocative musical that follows the life of world famous film director Guido Contini (Daniel Day-Lewis) as he reaches a creative and personal crisis of epic proportion, while balancing the numerous women in his life including his wife (Marion Cotillard), his mistress (Penelope Cruz), his film star muse (Nicole Kidman), his confidant and costume designer (Judi Dench), an American fashion journalist (Kate Hudson), the whore from his youth (Fergie) and his mother (Sophia Loren). CHICAGO – Three Kings sent over a brand new preview for an upcoming film starring Hilary Duff, Steve Coogan, Olivia Thirlby, Josh Peck, and Molly Shannon called “What Goes Up” and we just had to share.

Synopsis: “WHAT GOES UP is a film about a morally challenged New York reporter, Campbell Babbitt (Steve Coogan), who learns life lessons from a group of dysfunctional students (Hilary Duff, Josh Peck, Olivia Thirlby) while covering the hometown hoopla surrounding the first teacher in space. Set in the 1980s, this is a poignant look at how heroes are made in a world devoid of heroes.

Upon arriving in the small New Hampshire town, Babbitt decides to call an old college friend, only to discover an apparent suicide. Babbitt gravitates toward his friend’s high-school students in hopes of finding an unsung hero story about a teacher who made a permanent impact on the social misfits of the school. Instead, he discovers the least likely teachers — a group of dysfunctional students – outcasts led by a narcissistic seductress (Hilary Duff), a repressed voyeur (Josh Peck), and a scheming pregnant teen (Olivia Thirlby). In a gradual reversal of roles, Babbitt soon finds himself learning from this unusual group of kids.
