Here is the synopsis for “The Amazing Spider-Man”:

One of the world’s most popular characters is back on the big screen as a new chapter in the Spider-Man legacy is revealed in “The Amazing Spider-Man”. Focusing on an untold story that tells a different side of the Peter Parker story, the new film stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Denis Leary, Campbell Scott and Irrfan Khan with Martin Sheen and Sally Field.

The film is directed by Marc Webb from a screenplay written by James Vanderbilt, Alvin Sargent and Steve Kloves from a story by James Vanderbilt that’s based on the Marvel comic book by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko. Laura Ziskin, Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach are producing the film in association with Marvel Entertainment for Columbia Pictures, which will open in theaters everywhere in 3D on July 3, 2012.

“The Amazing Spider-Man” is the story of Peter Parker (Garfield): an outcast high schooler who was abandoned by his parents as a boy. This left him to be raised by his Uncle Ben (Sheen) and Aunt May (Field). Like most teenagers, Peter is trying to figure out who he is and how he got to be the person he is today. Peter is also finding his way with his first high school crush, Gwen Stacy (Stone). Together, they struggle with love, commitment and secrets.

As Peter discovers a mysterious briefcase that belonged to his father, he begins a quest to understand his parents’ disappearance. This leads him directly to Oscorp and the lab of Dr. Curt Connors (Ifans), his father’s former partner. As Spider-Man is set on a collision course with Connors’ alter-ego, The Lizard, Peter will make life-altering choices to use his powers and shape his destiny to become a hero.

CHICAGO – In our latest blockbuster trilogy edition of HollywoodChicago.com Hookup: DVD, we have 10 trilogy DVDs up for grabs for the “Spider-Man” trilogy in support of “The Amazing Spider-Man” “Secrets Unmasked” truck tour!

The truck from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment and Walmart will make several stops in Illinois this week including the Walmart at 801 Meacham Rd. in Elk Grove Village, Ill. from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 6, 2012. The unique truck tour turns a parking lot into a playground of interactive features including a PlayStation 3 gaming center with a demo of “The Amazing Spider-Man” video game from Activision, which is available in stores on June 26, 2012.

There will also be demos and giveaways of the new “Spider-Man” Bonkazonks toys from Hasbro, an HP photo center with a free photo print, a Sony electronics screening center, a temporary tattoo station, samples of “Spider-Man” snacks from Kellogg’s, a demo of the “Web-Slinger” reality app available for download on June 14, 2012 and a Spidey climbing wall (at select locations). In addition to the featured truck tour above, the tour travels to these Illinois locations this week:

“Spider-Man,” “Spider-Man 2” and “Spider Man-3” all star Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst. The films also feature Willem Dafoe, Topher Grace, Alfred Molina, James Franco, J.K. Simmons, Thomas Haden Church, Bryce Dallas Howard, Rosemary Harris and James Cromwell. All three films are directed by Sam Raimi based on the Marvel comic book by Stan Lee.

Film Review: Geekdom Celebrated in ‘Comic-Con Episode IV: A Fan’s Hope’

CHICAGO – Say the words “San Diego Comic-Con” to a certain comic geek subculture and suddenly heart rates are up and anticipation is in the air. The documentary maker Morgan Spurlock (“Supersize Me”) seeks to capture that feeling in “Comic-Con Episode IV: A Fan’s Hope,” with help from Seth Rogen, Kevin Smith, Stan Lee, Thomas Jane, Josh Whedon, Seth Green and Matt Groening.

Get out the comic fan geek meter, because the way that you react to the film will be based on how close you are to the red zone. If you love the annual event, the pop culture and the comics, then Morgan Spurlock has delivered a valentine, because the feeling of the fun and the mutual admiration society is apparent in every frame. If you’re not such a fan, the film will give you an understanding of the passion, even as you roll your eyes at the familiar “dudes talking about pop culture.”

The documentary focuses on five distinct but related-to-the-Con-stories, with all the joy, heartache and profit intact from a convention that started in 1970 with 150 participants, and now boasts 100,000 visitors. Two participants, Skip and Eric, are aspiring comic book artists. Their passion is relevant to everything the festival is about. Holly is a costume designer, and she is entering the big costume contest. Her unique energy pays off in ways she couldn’t have imagined. James wants to propose to his girlfriend, who he met at Comic-Con the year before, and Chuck is a long-time comic books dealer, who is morally conflicted between the profit he needs for his business and his love for the soul of the comic book universe.

Between these stories are a series of interview soundbites given by the famous, the comic book purveyors and the lovers of the medium. In many ways, they are trying to explain the unexplainable, but it is effective how the documentary weaves from the individual stories of cause-and-effect in San Diego with Kevin Smith talking about how comic books made a difference in his life, to the extent that he is glad he was born in this time in history.

‘The Incredible Hulk’ Jacked Up on CGI Roids, But Medusa’s in His Face

CHICAGO – Technology has done double-edged service and disservice to the legendary Hulk superhero character from Stan Lee’s Marvel Comics.

In peering at the CGI-created ripped body of nothing remotely reminiscent of Edward Norton, the 2008 film iteration of “The Incredible Hulk” has a leg light years up on Lou Ferrigno’s character in the 1978 television series of the “The Incredible Hulk”.

Rating: 4.0/5.0

Then, Ferrigno only had the luxury of makeup. The rest was the real deal. On the other hand, Ferrigno – who treats 2008 audiences in a gasping reveal when he appears in a brief cameo in the new Louis Leterrier-directed feature film – is still the soul, spirit and most critically the face of the green-skinned behemoth.

Aside from Ferrigno’s brief face time, he also lurks notably in the background as Norton’s voice when he gets royally pissed and transforms into the Hulk. When Norton fumes past his human limit, honing in on the Hulk character’s technologically enhanced face is awkwardly unrealistic and utterly painful.

It’s like gazing into the eyes of the sea nymph Medusa whose monstrous face could threateningly turn onlookers to stone.

While Hollywood’s big-budget technology department both strikes out and smashes a homerun with its revamped and roided-up Hulk character, Tim Roth’s altered ego gets the just-right royal treatment.

When Roth becomes the Abomination to rival the Hulk, the abominable baddie is so disgustingly repulsive and out of such reality whack that his CGI renovation plays perfectly.

The unbridled force of rage known as The Hulk on the streets of New York in an all-new, explosive and action-packed epic of one of the most popular superheroes of all time in “The Incredible Hulk”.

Paramount Pictures Releases Flood of New Production Stills For ‘Iron Man’

CHICAGO – Paramount Pictures on Monday released a flood of new production stills for the highly anticipated film “Iron Man” with Robert Downey Jr., Terrence Howard, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jeff Bridges, Samuel L. Jackson, Hilary Swank, Leslie Bibb and Stan Lee. Directed by Jon Favreau, the film opens on May 2, 2008.

Marvel Releases Two New Production Stills of ‘Iron Man’ With Downey Jr.

CHICAGO – Marvel on Monday released two new production stills from the highly anticipated adaption “Iron Man” with Robert Downey Jr. In the first photo, he displays a gauntlet for from the “Iron Man” armor and the second new photo shows Downey Jr. with director Jon Favreau as they talk about a scene on a workshop set.

Favreau has also directed “Elf”. “Iron Man,” which is scheduled to open on May 2, also features Samuel L. Jackson, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jeff Bridges, Terrence Howard and Stan Lee. In playing Tony Stark, Downey Jr. fashions a life-support suit to keep him alive after an accident. He decides to use the suit to fight crime.

The first photo above is similar to the production still below, which was released on Jan. 9.

Major Plot Spoilers Surface For ‘The Incredible Hulk’

Major plot spoilers surfaced on Tuesday to “The Incredible Hulk,” which stars Edward Norton and Liv Tyler.

This information comes from a Latino Review scooper who also revealed George Miller as the director of “Justice League of America” and Heath Ledger’s role as the Joker in “The Dark Knight”.

Latino Review says the scooper has read the first draft of the film. Warning: spoilers are ahead.
