CHICAGO – While there were a few nice surprises (Vera Farmiga! Laura Dern!), the 2013 Emmy nominations were a largely predictable bunch, including most of the nominees from last year, including “Breaking Bad,” “Homeland,” “Downton Abbey,” “Mad Men,” “Modern Family,” and many more. New shows like “The Americans” that many thought could break into the club were excluded although “Boardwalk Empire” was replaced in most of the dramatic categories by “House of Cards”. As for series, “Game of Thrones” had the most for a dramatic series (17) while the final season of “30 Rock” went out on a high note with 15.
