Blu-ray Review: ‘Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure’ Still Rules

CHICAGO – How much do I love “Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure”? Many of my fantasy sports teams over the years have been named Wild Stallyns, after the fictional rock band fronted by the title characters. That’s how much. I adored this movie when I was a teenager upon its first release and the movie still has such a joyful energy that is so commonly missing from modern comedies. It may be dumb fun but it’s infectiously so.

The blu-ray for “Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure” is a little slight on special features and the HD transfer is pretty standard stuff. This is essentially just an import of the DVD to the HD format. However, if you’re like most Blu-ray collectors and have stored your standard DVDs away and wonder if the nostalgia you feel for Bill, Ted, Rufus, and the Wyld Stallyns isn’t worried, take this trip through comedy history to this underrated comedy. Wyld Stallyns Forever!

Synopsis:
Keanu Reeves (The Matrix) and Alex Winter (The Lost Boys) star in this outrageous comedy about two ditzy dudes from San Dimas, California.

Bill (Winter) and Ted (Reeves) have spent so much time forming their rock band, The Wyld Stallyns, that they’re flunking history. A guardian angel from the future, Rufus (George Carlin), comes to them with a bodacious solution: a time-traveling phone booth to take them into the past to learn from history’s most influential people. Their journey turns out to be a blast… but will they learn enough to pass their class?
