CHICAGO – “Paranormal Activity 3” made record breaking audiences scream all weekend long and hauled in enough money to not only be named box office king for this weekend, but for all time from any September/October fall release.
The third installment in the documentary style horror series, “Paranormal Activity 3” totaled up $54 million during the weekend, including $8 million in opening midnight sales. The record total shows that this series is clearly still alive and kicking, beating out last year’s “Paranormal Activity 2” by over $13 million on opening weekend totals.
Then, there were the rest. “Real Steel” finished in second with a total of $11.3 million, the remake, “Footloose,” still hit eight figures in third place with $10.9 million, and “The Ides of March” finished in fifth with $4.9 million.
As far as the new releases, “The Three Musketeers” finished in fourth at the box office with an $8.8 million total. The only other new release to hit the top ten was “Johnny English Reborn,” which finished in eighth with $3.8 million.
Will “Paranormal Activity 3” keep its record numbers going next weekend, or will it fall to the new releases of “Puss in Boots,” Justin Timberlake’s “In Time,” or “The Rum Diary” starring Johnny Depp? We will have to wait and find out, but with next week being Halloween weekend, the non-horror new releases may have their work cut out for them.

10. 50/50 [25]— $2.8 million — down 34% — $28.8 million total
