CHICAGO – FX’s hit series “Sons of Anarchy” has become the most watched program in the history of the network. The season four premiere of the show had 6.5 million viewers watching when it premiered and added another 3 million in its encore plays. The 9.5 million total viewers for the one episode included 6.3 million adults from 18-49 years old.
The total viewers for the show beat out FX’s original movie, “44 Minutes,” which held the top spot on the network since June of 2003. “44 Minutes” totaled 6.099 million total viewers on June 1, 2003, while the fourth season premiere of “Sons of Anarchy” brought in 6.460 million viewers.
The premiere also set records for FX in the categories of viewers between the ages of 18-49 (4.285 million), men from the ages of 18-49 (2.54 million), and adults from 25-54 (4.192 million).
“Sons of Anarchy” tells the story of an outlaw motorcycle gang, known as the MC, in the town of Charming, California who protects their own livelihood as well as their own town. The gang fights against drug dealers, corporate developers, and law enforcement officials to keep their town the way they want it. The MC runs a legal and thriving automotive shop while also illegally dealing arms and weapons.
The show stars Charlie Hunnam as the MC’s vice-president, Jax, Katey Sagal as Jax’s mother, Gemma, and Ron Perlman as the MC’s president and Jax’s step father, Clay.
An all new episode of “Sons of Anarchy,” titled “Una Venta,” premieres tomorrow night, September 27 at 9 p.m. CST on FX. We will have to see if the large turnout for the season premiere will continue throughout all of this season’s episodes.
