Theron, who will play the wife of [Viggo] Mortensen’s character, will be seen mostly in flashback. Although the role is small, Theron joined the project because she’s a big fan of the book — published by Knopf in 2006 — and was eager to reteam with producer Nick Wechsler, with whom she worked on 2000’s “The Yards.”
I started reading the screenplay the other day, and while I didn’t get that far in, I did notice that they’d bumped up the wife character from her presence in the novel. The Proposition’s John Hilcoat will direct, a choice of which I personally think is genius.
