A few weeks back, myself and the great Dustin offered our top five predicted Oscar snubs. Here are the results…
Dustin — All five correct
Predicted snubs for ‘I Am Legend,’ (no visual effects nod?), ‘The Darjeeling Limited’ (a crime, a great film), Zodiac (the curse of the early release), ‘300’ (for visual effects, and I quote Dustin here…”And you know what? The Academy will be one of you haters, I’m sure of it. TRANSFORMERS, THE GOLDEN COMPASS, and PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: AT WORLD’S END will get the nominations this year.” Exactly right.) and Judd Apatow (don’t worry Juddster, the money you made for 100 generations of Apatows is fine recognition).
Hank — Three out of Five
WRONG: No Early Year Performances noms (Julie Christie got a nod for ‘Away From Her’ released in May), WRONG: ‘Sicko’ will not get a nom (sure enough it did), Best Screenplay for ‘Once’ (it got a song nom), ‘The Simpsons Movie’ (snubbed as predicted in the Best Animated Feature in favor of ‘Surf’s Up?’) and finally Best Supporting Actress nom for Jenny Garner from ‘Juno’ (another crime, considering Cate Blanchett was nominated in Supporting AND Best Actress).
Overall a dog of a nomination year, the old farts at the Academy are as predictible as a visit to their plastic surgeons.
