::spoiler alert::
Considering I'm a HUGE fan of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, it goes without saying that I'm a Joss Whedon fan.
However, I'm not particularly a fan of SciFi nor did I ever watch even one episode of the television series, "Firefly," upon which this movie was based. Yet.
I don't really know what to write about this movie. I've started several reviews & chucked them all. Why? Because I don't know what to say.
Which, I have regretfully come to the conclusion, is not a good thing.
Excellent dialogue. Human, believable words & actions in a genre that typically offers up gibberish.
& honestly, their near-misses with the Reevers (pardon me if I misspell) were scarier than "Hostel." Scarier in the sense that I felt that adrenaline jolt in my chest which I didn't feel once during "Hostel."
But the end result was a little disappointing. I wanted what she saw to be HUGE. Granted, the wiping out of an entire planet was huge, the making, essentially, of Reevers was huge, but ... eh ... I expected more. Instead, I watched a watered down version of "Stephen King's The Stand" (book, not made-for-tv-movie, cuz let's face it, that was the watered-down version of the book).
I dunno. I liked it, but don't know if I so much am going to join the underground masses that worship at the foot of Firefly/Serenity. But then again, maybe I just need to give the television show a look-see. After all, I didn't judge BVS the tv series on the movie.
& thank God for that.
