16 Medill faculty members at Northwestern University in Chicago pressure journalism dean on anonymous quotes

I was just sent the following Chicago Tribune story [1] from the Chicago Film Critics Association:

Sixteen faculty members at Northwestern University’s journalism school wrote Tuesday they are “deeply troubled” about their dean’s use of anonymous sources in his alumni magazine columns and called on him to provide proof that he did not fabricate the quotes.

A two-page statement sent to top administrators by the instructors — including 11 of 51 full-time professors — comes in response to a column in The Daily Northwestern, the student newspaper, which last week questioned Medill School of Journalism Dean John Lavine’s use of anonymous quotes in columns he wrote.
