Blu-ray Review: Gorgeous Gift Set For ‘Band of Brothers,’ ‘The Pacific’

Band of Brothers & The Pacific

CHICAGO – One of the most beloved holiday gifts this season will be the wonderfully-packaged gift set for HBO’s “Band of Brothers” and “The Pacific,” now presented in one lovely case with new special features and stunning HD transfers. The two Steven Spielberg-produced mini-series are not only two of the best programs in the history of television but two of the most impressive Blu-ray sets as well. “Band of Brothers” is the #1 best-selling TV-on-DVD/Blu-ray of all time and “The Pacific” was the #1 best-selling release of 2010. Now they’re available together in time for both Veteran’s Day and the upcoming holiday season.

TV Feature: 10 Best Shows of 2010

CHICAGO – Television may no longer be in the golden age of the late ’90s and early ’00s, but the diversity of the current landscape has produced a few notable gems.

Blu-Ray Feature: The 10 Best Blu-Rays of 2010

CHICAGO – As more and more homes become HD-enabled, the Blu-ray market has finally started to expand to the point that it’s getting difficult to narrow a list of the best releases down to only ten. But that’s what we’re here for — to do the difficult jobs. These are the ten best Blu-rays of 2010.

Blu-Ray Feature: 2010 High-Def Holiday Gift Guide

CHICAGO – With hundreds of choices new and old, how can you possibly decide what to get the Blu-ray fan in your circle of gift-giving this holiday season? It’s that time of year — when we try to read the mental wish lists of our friends and family members and get them the perfect gift.

Blu-Ray Review: HBO’s ‘The Pacific’ Stands as One of TV’s Best Mini-Series

CHICAGOHBO’s “Band of Brothers” has been an annual bestseller around the holiday season, first on DVD and now on Blu-ray, and it seems virtually impossible that their equally-notable “The Pacific,” now on Blu-ray and DVD, would not follow it up the charts and turn out to be one of the most-given HD gifts of the upcoming season.

TV Review: Everyone Should Watch Masterful ‘The Pacific’

CHICAGO – I must admit to some trepidation about HBO’s WWII mini-series “The Pacific” from producers Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg, debuting tonight, March 14th, 2010 at 8pm CST. Why? Because “Band of Brothers” is the best mini-series of all time and it’s difficult for anyone to pitch a perfect game two starts in a row. I knew it would be good, but doubted it would be great. I was wrong. It’s spectacular.

TV, DVD, BLU-RAY & THEATER REVIEWS

  • Kingpin Blu-ray

CHICAGO – Before 1998’s “The Big Lebowski” there was 1996’s “Kingpin”, the Farrelly brothers bowling comedy that didn’t have the narrative intricacies of the Coen brothers’ classic, but had plenty of jokes about middle-aged men playing the sport. Today finds the release of “Kingpin” to Blu-ray for the first time, coming with only one new special feature.

  • Star Trek Into Darkness

CHICAGO – With J.J. Abrams not involved with the creation of a third “Star Trek” movie, a compendium of his work within the franchise only seems fitting. Loaded with special features but only a few new ones, this disc set is a strong choice for those who don’t already have both entertaining blockbusters in their collection.
