Film Review: Strong Ensemble Carries Funny ‘Think Like a Man’
Submitted by BrianTT on April 20, 2012 - 12:02pm.CHICAGO – Tim Story’s ‘Think Like a Man’ can be a frustrating film but the overall likeability of the cast and the inclusion of some of the often-missing elements from relationship movies (like chemistry and believable friendship dynamics) overcome the movie’s flaws.
Interview: Kevin Hart Wants You to ‘Think Like a Man’
Submitted by BrianTT on April 19, 2012 - 1:14pm.CHICAGO – Kevin Hart is easily one of the most popular stand-up comedians on the planet and he’s had a consistent film career for years now. But it feels like he’s right on the verge of a breakthrough as his career-best work premieres this weekend in “Think Like a Man” and he co-stars in next week’s “The Five-Year Engagement.”
TV Review: Despite Flaws in Premiere, ‘Person of Interest’ Has Potential
Submitted by BrianTT on September 22, 2011 - 12:45pm.CHICAGO – I’m curious to see where “Person of Interest” is going and I guess that’s all that really matters when it comes to a series premiere. The ultimate test of a pilot is a simple one — Will you watch episode two? Does it hook you enough to keep you coming back and maybe even tell your friends to do the same? People will be talking about the premiere of “Person of Interest” and buzz matters.
Blu-Ray Review: Crowd-Pleasing Extras Elevate ‘The Karate Kid’
Submitted by mattmovieman on October 7, 2010 - 9:15am.CHICAGO – If I were 12 years old, I’d probably think “The Karate Kid” was one of the best Blu-Rays of the year. It’s got everything: a crowd-pleasing feature film, several superb extras, and strikingly sharp picture quality, with colors that pop. Yet since I’m twice as old, I’m cursed with the clarity to see through the splendid spectacle and linger on its utter superficiality.
Blu-Ray Review: Spend ‘Date Night’ With Tina Fey, Steve Carell
Submitted by BrianTT on August 16, 2010 - 10:26am.CHICAGO – “Date Night” is one of the few word-of-mouth hits of 2010; a film that started off reasonably well at the box office but hung around the top ten for months after its release, turning it into an undeniable comedy success. The comedy starring Steve Carell and Tina Fey opened in second place but dropped so slowly that it almost made $100 million (a huge amount for a movie like this one and plus another $50 million internationally). The movie’s loyal fans will love the excellent Blu-ray release from 20th Century Fox.
Jackie Chan, Jaden Smith Are Kickin’ it in Remake of ‘The Karate Kid’
Submitted by PatrickMcD on June 11, 2010 - 6:18am.CHICAGO – Despite any resistance that must have been felt in remaking the quasi-classic 1984 film “The Karate Kid,” veteran Jackie Chan and Jaden Smith put their best kicking feet forward and spin some new cloth out of the old material. In resetting the location and putting in some surreal modern touches, this remake mostly succeeds.

‘The Karate Kid’ Interview: Jackie Chan Aspires to Be an ‘Asian Robert De Niro’
Submitted by HollywoodChicago.com on May 26, 2010 - 7:04pm.CHICAGO – When you think of Jackie Chan, you think of comedy blended with marital arts. Not any more, thanks to Will Smith and his new film “The Karate Kid,” which stars Jaden Smith.
Blu-Ray Review: Pick Up ‘Smokin’ Aces,’ Ignore Lame ‘Smokin’ Aces 2’ Sequel
Submitted by BrianTT on January 28, 2010 - 6:00am.CHICAGO – Does anyone else remember when crappy straight-to-DVD sequels were pretty much reserved for horror movies and kid’s flicks? Sure, we expected a new “Leprechaun” or “Air Bud” movie every now and then, but the action market has really gotten into this game recently and produced their share of junk. Take for example the awful “Smokin’ Aces 2,” a shoot-em-up that makes Joe Carnahan’s original look like a genre classic by comparison.
