Sarah Michelle Gellar

TV Review: The CW’s ‘Ringer’ With Sarah Michelle Gellar Almost Works

CHICAGO – The highly-buzzed “Ringer” essentially kicks off the Fall 2011 season tonight by bringing back one of the most beloved TV stars of the last twenty years in Sarah Michelle Gellar.

TV Review: ABC Family’s ‘The Lying Game’ Features Future Star Alexandra Chando

CHICAGOABC Family’s “The Lying Game” is a so-so soap but it’s elevated beyond that by a young lady with the kind of screen presence that virtually announces that she will be a star. There’s nothing you can do or say about it. It’s just going to happen.

Video Game Review: Return to ‘Call of Duty’ With Excellent ‘Escalation’

CHICAGO – Proving yet again that they know how to keep fans happy with their downloadable content, Activision and Treyarch have released another excellent batch of multiplayer maps for their mega-hit “Call of Duty: Black Ops.” The DLC named “Call of Duty: Black Ops — Escalation,” available exclusively on the Xbox, includes four new maps and a new zombie adventure named “Call of the Dead” that would be worth the $15 price on its very own.

Blu-Ray Review: First Three ‘Scream’ Movies Prepare You For ‘Scream 4’

Scream

CHICAGO – Wes Craven’s “Scream” is one of the most influential horror films of all time. And it’s one of the best of its era. The film has held up remarkably well in the fifteen years since it was released and is a must-own for fans of the genre, especially with an extras-laden Blu-ray release timed to coincide with the upcoming April 15th release of “Scream 4.” The sequels are inferior but more worthwhile than average horror sequels. Why not own ‘em all?

Blu-Ray Review: ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Season 8 Motion Comic’

BTVS: Season 8

CHICAGO – As the weeks, months, and years make it clearer that we will never get a live-action continuation of one of the best television programs ever, “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” (it’s just cruel that there are two “Sex and the City” movies and we can’t even get a “Buffy” reunion special), fans of the franchise are forced to turn to alternate advancements in the universe, such as the Dark Horse Comics series. The very-popular and critically-acclaimed comics have been turned into Motion Comics and released in a 2-disc Blu-ray set with mixed results.

‘TMNT’ Director Kevin Munroe Envisions R-Rated CGI

CHICAGO – “CGI is getting hampered by being defined as a ‘kiddie’ medium,” said “TMNT” writer/director Kevin Munroe in an interview with Adam Fendelman.

  • Rookie Blue 2012

CHICAGOABC’s “Rookie Blue” may be the biggest TV hit with the least amount of press. Perhaps because it’s a Canadian import or because it’s a summer series but the show never makes magazine covers or even highlight articles in entertainment magazines. But it’s developed into a pretty solid cop show, as evidenced by the tight, well-made third-season premiere with a great guest appearance from William Shatner.

  • CHICAGO – There are some talented people starring in TBS’s new sitcom “Men at Work,” another attempt to grow the budding cable network’s brand as a home for comedy.
