What to Watch prides itself on often offering a wide variety of material from TV seasons to On Demand exclusives to remasters of classic flicks. Not this week. All six of the New Releases that you may be drawn to in your favorite store or on your favorite service are movies, and all released in the last 18 months. But the variety within those movies is remarkable. A Best Picture winner, action flicks, a superhero, and two indie drams that waste talented casts. Pick your favorites. Here’s how we would rank ‘em.
CHICAGO – “The Bling Ring” is the latest film from director Sofia Coppola. Her universe of the American Dream is filtered through a circumstance of Hollywood privilege. Who better to understand the end of the world than a director in the grasp of the modern film industry? The end is near.
CHICAGO – Actress Katie Chang is in the high school graduating Class of 2013. But in a sense, she has already graduated to the big time with her lead role in director Sofia Coppola’s new film, “The Bling Ring.” Chang portrays Rebecca, the leader of a gang of teenage burglars who rob the homes of celebrities, including Paris Hilton.
CHICAGO – Paris Whitney Hilton has been a celebrity on the scene for over ten years now. Her image and staying power continues to draw interest, as she launched a new TV series recently on the Oxygen Channel, “The World According to Paris.”
CHICAGO – The excitement was in Chicago last month as ‘The Cable Show 2011” gathered at the McCormick Place Convention Center. Many celebrities associated with the cable industry, including Oprah Winfrey, Paris Hilton and Kelsey Grammer, participated in the event and provided meet-and-greet opportunities.
CHICAGO – Nicole Richie is turning another chapter in her “simple life” with the launch of a clothing line called “Winter Kate Collection.” She was in Chicago at Nordstrom on Michigan Avenue promoting the line and meeting admirers.
