Blu-Ray Review: Absolutely Awful ‘Old Dogs’ With John Travolta, Robin Williams

Old Dogs

CHICAGO – Culturally insensitive, disgusting, violent, vile, and shockingly unfunny, “Old Dogs” is the kind of embarrassment for which stars, writers, and directors should be forced to do community service. If someone delivered a product this awful to you at a restaurant, you wouldn’t have to pay for it and you could probably sue. Those of you who paid to see it in theaters, should consider a class action case. The rest of you should just avoid it like you would a dog turd on the sidewalk.

DVD Review: First Season of New ‘90210’ With Shenae Grimes, Jessica Stroup

90210

CHICAGO – I have to admit to looking forward to watching a few episodes of the new “90210,” now on DVD, in the same way that a lot of people look forward to a root canal. It’s not that I’m a loyalist to the original (unlike most of my generation, I barely saw the show), but most of the press surrounding the show’s original run on The CW annoyed me to no end and it felt like a blatant attempt to cash in on the success of “Gossip Girl” with another teeny-bopper soap opera.

TV, DVD, BLU-RAY & THEATER REVIEWS

  • Rookie Blue 2012

CHICAGOABC’s “Rookie Blue” may be the biggest TV hit with the least amount of press. Perhaps because it’s a Canadian import or because it’s a summer series but the show never makes magazine covers or even highlight articles in entertainment magazines. But it’s developed into a pretty solid cop show, as evidenced by the tight, well-made third-season premiere with a great guest appearance from William Shatner.

  • Hunger Games

CHICAGO – Lionsgate announced 2-disc Blu-ray and DVD editions of their massive hit “The Hunger Games” to be released on August 18, 2012 complete with three hours of extensive bonus features. The highlight of the bonus material is an eight-part documentary called “The World is Watching: Making of The Hunger Games.”
