Blu-Ray Review: Liam Neeson Kicks Butt, Takes Names in ‘Unknown’
Submitted by mattmovieman on June 29, 2011 - 7:23amCHICAGO – For audiences seeking a casually entertaining thriller that doesn’t require a great deal of thought, “Unknown” amounts to an enjoyable couple of hours. Skeptics are advised to steer clear. Though the mind-scrambling plot includes initial shades of “Twilight Zone” intrigue, it’s really just an excuse for Liam Neeson to kick even more butt than he did in 2008’s surprise box office hit, “Taken.”

Blu-Ray Review: ‘The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader’
Submitted by BrianTT on April 20, 2011 - 10:50amCHICAGO – “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader” is a well-intentioned blockbuster, a morally and spiritually strong piece about heroism and believing in yourself that bursts at the seams with the kind of striking visual imagery that keeps the little ones entertained long enough for them to possibly even learn something. It’s far from a great film as it drags and meanders to nearly two hours and contains a few awkward child performances, but it looks stunning on Blu-ray and Fox has put together another solid family offering for clans with HD capability.
DVD Review: Russell Crowe Shines in Taut Remake ‘The Next Three Days’
Submitted by mattmovieman on March 17, 2011 - 7:45amCHICAGO – Two equally ignored Oscar bait contenders from 2010 centered on the same basic question: to what extent would you go to free your beloved from prison? Tony Goldwyn’s “Conviction” and Paul Haggis’s “The Next Three Days,” are less interested in the characters behind bars than they are about those on the outside looking (and breaking) in. While neither film is Best Picture material, both are certainly worth a look.
Box Office News: ‘Unknown’ With Liam Neeson Tops Low-Performing Weekend
Submitted by BrianTT on February 21, 2011 - 12:52pmCHICAGO – A President’s Day weekend without too many highlights produced a relatively-lackluster number one in Liam Neeson’s “Unknown,” racking up $25.6 million over the four days, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The film barely beat out the competition as “Gnomeo and Juliet,” “I Am Number Four,” “Just Go With It,” and “Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son” made up a truly uninspiring top five that was down 30% from last year.
Film Review: Liam Neeson Fails to Find Missing Identity of ‘Unknown’
Submitted by BrianTT on February 18, 2011 - 11:07amCHICAGO – “Unknown,” the latest thriller to attempt to turn Liam Neeson into an unusual choice for an action star (a la “Taken” and “The A-Team”), is one of those films that nearly works but falls just short of its audience’s expectations. The elements are there — a (mostly) strong ensemble, an interesting concept, an intriguing location, a promising director — but the film never comes together because the script needed one more rewrite that it just never received.

Blu-Ray Review: Explosive ‘The A-Team’ Offers Tongue-in-Cheek Entertainment
Submitted by BrianTT on December 22, 2010 - 11:33amCHICAGO – What did audiences expect from “The A-Team” that Joe Carnahan’s explosive blockbuster didn’t deliver? Were they upset by the lack of Murdock’s character development? The lack of shading in Hannibal’s dialogue? Come on. “The A-Team” is about ridiculous, over-the-top lunacy and it totally works as testosterone-enhanced entertainment. It may have disappointed in theaters, but audiences will love it on Blu-ray.
Film Review: ‘The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader’ Not Worth the Trip
