The new book from Richard Lewis is ‘Reflections From Hell.’

CHICAGO – The “Prince of Pain” was in Chicago recently. Richard Lewis, the overtly introspective and hilarious stand up comedian, has written a new book – “Reflections From Hell” – and appeared at Chicago’s City Winery, plus sold out two shows at the legendary Zanies comedy club.

TV Review: Larry David’s ‘Clear History’ Appeases Fans of ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’

CHICAGO – There hasn’t been a new episode of Larry David’s brilliant comedy, “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” in almost two years and the creator of the HBO program has yet to commit to ever doing a ninth season, saying recently to TV Guide to ask him again in six months.

Blu-ray Review: ‘The Three Stooges’ Offers Modest Family Fun

The Three Stooges

CHICAGO – I must admit that I approached the Farrelly Brothers’ long-delayed reboot of “The Three Stooges” with a heavy amount of trepidation. The previews were pretty atrocious and I had serious doubts that the filmmakers and the actors chosen to play the iconic title characters had any chance of capturing the spirit of the original. The fact that “The Three Stooges” works as often as it does is somewhat surprising. It’s a reasonably enjoyable family film. Far from painful but just as far from brilliant.

DVD Review: Stellar Eighth Season of HBO’s ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’

Curb S8

CHICAGO – There was little on television in 2011 that was funnier than the razor sharp eighth season of “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” recently released by HBO Home Video in a 2-disc DVD set. The set is light on special features and stupidly not available on Blu-ray but the show itself is spectacular.

Film Review: Harmless ‘The Three Stooges’ Can’t Deliver the Goods

CHICAGO – Moe, Larry and Curly are three of the most popular names in the show business universe, and bringing them back to life in the new film “The Three Stooges” was a questionable risk. The re-imaging, with Chris Diamantopoulous, Sean Hayes and Will Sasso filling the trio’s roles, is a loving tribute that unfortunately veers in too many “Un-Stooge” like directions.

TV Review: Larry David Returns With More ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’

CHICAGO – Larry David returns tonight with another batch of misanthropic mayhem that he calls the eighth season of “Curb Your Enthusiasm.” According to an HBO publicist, David himself picked three episodes to send critics, although none of them were tonight’s season premiere or even next week’s episode.

TV Review: ‘The Paul Reiser Show’ Diminishes Legacy of Sitcom Star

CHICAGO – Tonight’s premiere of “The Paul Reiser Show” is awkward in the way that television is when the viewer can tell that not only is it not quite working for you but that the cast can tell its problematic too. Have you ever seen bad improvisational comedy? You know that moment when you can see in the performer’s eyes that it’s not going well?

DVD Review: Brilliant Seventh Season of ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’

Curb Your Enthusiasm

CHICAGO – The last year in television will be remembered as a very funny one as hit new comedies like “Glee,” “Modern Family,” and “Community” joined seasoned veterans like “30 Rock,” “The Office,” and “How I Met Your Mother” on lists of the best laugh-fests on the tube. Arguably the best of them all was also the oldest — the amazing seventh season of HBO’s “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” now available on DVD and simply spectacular.
