Film Review: Keep Tim Burton’s ‘Dark Shadows’ Out of the Light
Submitted by BrianTT on May 11, 2012 - 10:42am.CHICAGO – Tim Burton’s “Dark Shadows” is one of the most inconsistent and frustrating major films in a long time. There are elements here and there that work but Burton and writer Seth Grahame-Smith seem incapable of figuring out how to wrangle them into a coherent, successful film.
TV Review: ‘Human Target’ Adds Two Characters to Entertaining Action Series
Submitted by BrianTT on November 17, 2010 - 1:59pm.CHICAGO – FOX’s action series “Human Target” returns tonight, November 17th, 2010, hoping to find the larger audience that didn’t really show up to the party in season one.
Blu-Ray Review: ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street’ Remake Fails Completely
Submitted by BrianTT on October 7, 2010 - 2:59pm.CHICAGO – The irony of Samuel Bayer’s remake of the Wes Craven classic, “A Nightmare on Elm Street,” is that most viewers will have more trouble staying awake than combatting actual fear. The saddest thing about this failed effort is that it could tarnish the reputation of Wes Craven’s brilliant original for a new generation. Ignore the new film. Just go rent the original.
Blu-Ray Review: First Season of FOX’s ‘Human Target’ With Mark Valley
Submitted by BrianTT on October 1, 2010 - 2:19pm.CHICAGO – After realizing that “Human Target” was not going to be their next “24,” FOX has moved the program to Friday nights, starting November 17th, where it could easily reside as a guilty pleasure for years to come. The program is a throwback to the action series escapism of the 1980s but with modern production values that make it a very-enjoyable thrill ride in HD. It’s not going to win awards or change the TV landscape, but it works on its own terms.
Blu-Ray Review: ‘Shutter Island’ Looks Amazing, But Deserved Better Release
Submitted by BrianTT on June 10, 2010 - 2:31pm.CHICAGO – I firmly believe that the detractors of Martin Scorsese’s amazing “Shutter Island” will deny they ever criticized this masterful thriller when it was first released. History will be very kind to this dizzying trip through a cinematic funhouse led by arguably our best living filmmaker, but one would never guess it from Paramount’s purely average Blu-ray release.
‘A Nightmare on Elm Street’ Remake Plays Like a Bad Dream
Submitted by BrianTT on April 30, 2010 - 1:59pm.CHICAGO – Samuel Bayer’s remake of Wes Craven’s “A Nightmare on Elm Street” may be about repressed memories coming back in horrific ways, but it ironically ends up one of the least memorable films of 2010 to date. Not as abrasive as the “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” remakes and not as dumb as “The Amityville Horror,” “A Nightmare on Elm Street” is merely forgettable; something never said about the influential original.

Blu-Ray Review: Original ‘Nightmare on Elm Street’ Still Shocks
Submitted by BrianTT on April 9, 2010 - 11:22am.CHICAGO – I haven’t seen it yet but just watching the original “A Nightmare on Elm Street” in gorgeous HD has me pumped up for the Platinum Dunes remake about to be released. The world could use a little more Freddy Krueger (played by the excellent Jackie Earle Haley in the remake), one of the most memorable creations in the history of horror.
