DVD Review: Beautiful Series Set For ‘It’s Garry Shandling’s Show’
Submitted by BrianTT on October 27, 2009 - 6:00am.CHICAGO – A lot of classic TV comedies are often pointed to as being “ahead of their time”. The quirky, weird, and memorable “It’s Garry Shandling Show” wasn’t really ahead of its time because there’s nothing quite like it on the air. The groundbreaking cult classic is now available in a gorgeous 16-disc set from Shout Factory and it’s just what Shandling fans deserve.
TV Review: ‘The Simpsons’ Scares Up Few Laughs With ‘Treehouse of Horror’
Submitted by BrianTT on October 18, 2009 - 1:11pm.CHICAGO – Even the most diehard fans of “The Simpsons,” a group of which I would proudly call myself a member, would admit that the last few seasons of the show have been disappointing at best and, at times, downright bad (especially the current season we’re in, which has produced fewer laughs than anything on FOX Sunday nights).
FOX November Highlights: ‘The Wanda Sykes Show’ Premiere; New Episodes of ‘House,’ ‘Fringe,’ More
Submitted by BrianTT on October 15, 2009 - 9:52am.CHICAGO – FOX recently sent over the details on their post-baseball coverage including the series premiere of “The Wanda Sykes Show,” the special “Family Guy Presents: Seth & Alex’s Almost Live Comedy Show,” a week-long “The Simpsons”-themed on-air scavenger hunt November 9th through the 15th, and synopsis information for the hit shows they have planned for the sweeps period including “House,” “Glee,” “Bones,” “Fringe,” and “Lie to Me”.
TV Review: ‘Dollhouse’ Continues to Frustrate With Season-Two Premiere
Submitted by BrianTT on September 24, 2009 - 11:02pm.CHICAGO – For its entire first season, “Dollhouse” fluctuated wildly in tone and style, never quite figuring itself out as a weekly series and remaining inconsistent in terms of quality.
TV Review: ‘Bones’ Returns to Start Fifth Season With Disappointing Episode
Submitted by BrianTT on September 16, 2009 - 4:04pm.CHICAGO – If you’re like a lot of “Bones” fans you were disappointed and angry about the bait-and-switch in place during the season four finale, which promised to feature the inevitable hook-up between Brennan (Emily Deschanel) and Booth (David Boreanaz) but turned out to be nothing more than a dream episode. Sadly, the bitter taste left by the finale continues into the start of season five with the worst premiere episode the often-excellent program has provided to date.
TV Review: The Best New Show of the Year is ‘Glee’
Submitted by BrianTT on September 9, 2009 - 12:10pm.CHICAGO – Ryan Murphy’s brilliant “Glee” is not only the best new show of the year, it’s off to one of the best starts for any series in the last several fall seasons. Much closer to Alexander Payne’s “Election” than Disney’s “High School Musical,” this is a clever blend of satire, pop tunes, laugh-out-loud comedy, and rich, interesting characters that you simply shouldn’t miss.
TV on Blu-Ray Round Up: ‘Lie to Me,’ ‘Sons of Anarchy,’ ‘Life After People’
Submitted by BrianTT on August 31, 2009 - 8:44am.CHICAGO – There have been some very cool TV on Blu-Ray releases lately that we wanted to make sure you, our loyal readers, knew about, including “Life After People,” “Lie to Me,” and “Sons of Anarchy”.
Summer Glau Joins Cast of Joss Whedon’s ‘Dollhouse’ With Eliza Dushku
Submitted by BrianTT on August 27, 2009 - 10:21am.CHICAGO – Summer Glau (“Firefly,” “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles”) is reuniting with Joss Whedon for the second season of “Dollhouse” this fall as she joins the cast in a recurring role. The actress previously worked with Whedon on the TV series “Firefly”. During this year’s ComicCon, Whedon expressed intense interest in having Glau join the series.
DVD Review: Excellence Continues With Twelfth Season of ‘The Simpsons’
Submitted by BrianTT on August 25, 2009 - 3:20pm.CHICAGO – Since Fox released the first season of “The Simpsons” on DVD, fans of the series have anticipated each new release like a kid waiting for presents for a fat man in a red suit to fall down a chimney in late December. Each season set for “The Simpsons” has set the bar for what TV on DVD should be. It’s no surprise that the twelfth season doesn’t change the excellent pattern.
Blu-Ray Review: ‘Dollhouse’ With Eliza Dushku is Still Fascinating Television
Submitted by BrianTT on August 4, 2009 - 1:14pm.CHICAGO – When “Dollhouse” premiered, I wrote, “All the ingredients are there for a riveting, fantastic series, but it feels like a show still finding its way.” An entire, controversial season later with the first 12 (or 14 depending on how you look at it) episodes of the Eliza Dushku show done and now on Blu-Ray the funny thing is that I feel exactly the same way. You can’t write off the show quite yet, but very few television series have been as wildly hit-and-miss as Joss Whedon’s latest creation.
