DVD Review: Smart, Funny Comedy of Showtime’s ‘Episodes’

Episodes S2

CHICAGO – Outside of a surprising Golden Globe win by its hysterically funny star, Matt LeBlanc, Showtime’s “Episodes” doesn’t seem to be getting too much attention from critics or viewers. It’s not one of the modern cable shows that everyone seems to be talking about like “Breaking Bad,” “Homeland,” “The Walking Dead,” “Justified,” etc. I’m not saying it’s in the caliber of those programs but it would be a shame if this program was ignored entirely. It’s damn funny.

TV Review: Clever ‘Episodes’ Mocks Industry with Hilarious Results

CHICAGO – Life really does imitate fiction, especially when the fiction is so clearly inspired by reality. While Showtime’s very funny “Episodes” is an exaggerated version of the chaos, infidelity, backstabbing, and general stupidity that goes down behind the scenes of a network TV show, one need look no further to prove the statement than the fact that “Episodes” star Stephen Mangan watched as his British hit “Free Agents” was turned into the first casualty of the Fall 2011 season in the States.

TV Review: ‘Episodes’ Sublimely Synthesizes American, British Humor

CHICAGO – In the annals of showbiz-skewering shows about shows, few of them have been as funny right off the bat as “Episodes.” This Showtime/BBC co-production is blessed with one of the best premises of the season, and as evidenced in its first three episodes, the premise only gets funnier as the story progresses, reaching new heights of lunacy.
