Blu-ray Review: Sixth Season of Showtime Hit ‘Dexter’
Submitted by BrianTT on August 16, 2012 - 12:16pm.CHICAGO – Showtime’s “Dexter” is starting to show its age a bit after six years of slicing, dicing, and near-captures of Dexter Morgan. It’s still a strong show, largely because of the incredible central performance from Michael C. Hall, but the writing doesn’t seem as potent as it once was as the show often fails to follow through with its ideas. I loved the foundation of faith through the sixth season but felt it was under-developed, especially after the departure of the one character who seemed most likely to challenge Dexter’s worldview. Still a good show, but not quite a great one any more. Let’s hope it comes back in season seven,

Blu-Ray Review: ‘Battlestar Galactica: Season Four’ Finally Closes HD Chapter
Submitted by BrianTT on January 4, 2011 - 10:03am.CHICAGO – The high-def releases for “Battlestar Galactica” have been somewhat baffling. The problem for Universal was that A.) They had started releasing the series on standard-def when Blu-ray took off and B.) They needed a way to milk one of their most impressive cash cows for a bit longer. Consequently, the chance to individually buy all of one of the best science fiction programs of all time didn’t come until 2011. But that day has finally arrived with the release of the impressive “Battlestar Galactica: Season Four.”
Blu-Ray Review: Third Season of ‘Battlestar: Galactica’ Now in HD
Submitted by BrianTT on August 2, 2010 - 9:08am.CHICAGO – How many “Battlestar Galactica” fans don’t already have the excellent third season in some form? The release pattern of “BSG” on Blu-ray continues to surprise this critic as it feels like the niche market who doesn’t own the complete HD series or hasn’t already bought the standard DVD is very small, meaning that the question for most is going to be whether or not to upgrade.

Blu-Ray Review: Complete Your ‘Battlestar Galactica’ Collection With Season 4.5
Submitted by BrianTT on August 7, 2009 - 3:25pm.CHICAGO – When the decade began, who would have guessed that one of the best shows of the ’00s would air on The Sci-Fi Channel? I’m as much of a science fiction junkie as the next guy, but the network known for straight-to-cable movies like “Mansquito” and “SS Doomtrooper” wasn’t exactly the go-to place for quality drama. Until “Battlestar Galactica”.
Blu-Ray Review: Disposable ‘Beverly Hills Chihuahua’ Given Royal Disney Treatment
Submitted by BrianTT on March 10, 2009 - 5:01pm.![]() Blu-Ray Rating: 3.0/5.0 |
CHICAGO – Disney’s “Beverly Hills Chihuahua”, now on Blu-Ray and DVD, is so generic and disposable that it’s easy for an adult to forget they’re watching it while it’s playing. It’s one of those movies that appeals to the little ones because talking animals naturally do so, but so little was done beyond the casting and the concept that adults are going to get bored quickly.
