Sorry, What to Watch took a turkey day break as last week was really light on new product worth mentioning. This week? Pretty much the same but we don’t want you to miss us too badly. Here’s five recent Blu-ray, DVD, and streaming releases that may have caught your attention on new release shelves lately, ranked in the order we’d add them to our holiday wish list.
CHICAGO – “The Godfather” saga, “Goodfellas,” “Donnie Brasco,” “The Departed” – the list of America’s obsessive adoration of organized crime and mafia movies goes on and on. Finally, one film comes along to virtually kill the genre, the almost-unwatchable “The Family.”
HollywoodChicago.com Hookup: 25 Pairs of Passes to ‘The Family’ with Robert De Niro, Michelle PfeifferSubmitted by HollywoodChicago.com on September 8, 2013 - 11:10pm
CHICAGO – In the latest HollywoodChicago.com Hookup: Film with our unique social giveaway technology, we have 25 pairs of advance-screening movie passes up for grabs to the highly anticipated “The Family” starring Robert De Niro from executive producer Martin Scorsese!
CHICAGO – While the plot for the highly anticipated “Paranormal Activity 4” still remains undisclosed, Paramount Pictures gives us a new clue today with the release of the film’s first-look production still!
CHICAGO – The kids of “Glee” are back a little early this year as FOX has released the third season of the hit musical comedy earlier than the wave of TV-on-Blu-ray releases that are about to hit stores. This season was a bit of a letdown after the first two, earning much fewer Emmy nominations and sliding pretty far in the ratings. And the Blu-ray release feels like a step down from previous years as well. True fans will be happy but newcomers should obviously start with seasons one or two.
CHICAGO – It’s no accident that Jane Lynch is one of hottest performers of the moment, despite the title of her new book, “Happy Accidents.” The talented and hilarious Ms. Lynch memorably portrays Sue Sylvester on the popular FOX show, “Glee,” and had time to host the Emmys this year.
CHICAGO – Gleeks Unite! You have nothing to fear from “Glee: The 3D Concert Movie,” except the extra fee for those glasses. This film charms through it’s fabulous cast of singers and personalities singing jukebox hits.
CHICAGO – Very few films have felt more made my a movie-making machine than the dull “I Am Number Four,” a film that hopes so desperately to feel like something that you’ve seen before and that you’ll like the familiarity that it never develops a personality of its own. With a dull lead, lackluster romance, goofy dialogue, and melodramatic storytelling, “I Am Number Four” disappoints in nearly every way that a movie can.
CHICAGO – In our latest superhero edition of HollywoodChicago.com Hookup: Blu-ray, we have 6 Blu-rays up for grabs to “I Am Number Four” from the director of “Disturbia” and producer Michael Bay!
CHICAGO – While the new sci-fi/superhero film “I Am Number Four” can be easily dismissed as yet another “Twilight” knockoff, the power of two mega-producers arms the film with nearly as much right as it does wrong.
CHICAGO – We have written here several times about the genius of “Glee” (in May and again in September), but with the show having been off the air for a few weeks so the Yankees could win another World Series, we thought it was a good time to assess how the show has been progressing by taking an advanced look at tonight’s episode, the wonderful “Wheels”.
