Why I'm the biggest BBC fan.

I’m 43 now and as a kid I went to visit my dad (divorced from my mom at a early age). My father had a Stromberg-Carlson shortwave radio that the owners of the house had left because they thought it didn’t work. After a little tinkering and a piece of string the old radio would tune again. I sat listening to all hours of the night tuning into BBC radio and all the classic shows. (Radio like this http://www.enginova.com/Stromberg_440M_1.jpg) I had my dad climb the nearest high tree and connect a antenna in hopes of less fading of my favorite programs. Later when my dad had a television I could see these some of these programs in tv format I was so excited.
My mom’s television wouldn’t pickup the same stations as my dad so in order to watch my favorite BBC programs and Listen to them on my New Radio Shack short wave radio (child’d kit) I began to collect every piece of wire I could find for a year. (every power cord, every old house wire etc)Went up the high hill behind our house almost 3/4 of a mile up and with a little help from my tree climbing brother placed a antenna from and old citizen band radio and a time of about a year…. and buttloads of ducktape was able to manage fashion a antenna now the programs that were only enjoyed at dad’s on the weekends were now a daily happening. Not only could I get a dose of League of Gentlemen, and Dr. Who and, Hitchhicker’s guide, I get a dose of Rock and Roll from John Peel/Top Gear and learning about David Bowie, Mark Bolan and the Stones..yeah THOSE were indeed evenings and all night-ers well spent.

BBC seven, BBC heaven.

when I was younger, i always travelled with my parents. I was constantly bored while they attended dinner parties, so I always tuned in to BBC to watch my favorite shows, as most other countries didnt pick up american shows. when i found out my cable lineup offered BBC as an adult, i was beyond excited to watch some of my favorite shows. :) they were a great escape from boredom/reality.

bbc fan

I was a fan since i was seven years old. I stayed up late to watch the series when I should have been asleep. It offered hope that there were intellectual heros who had ethics and could conquer evil beings.

BBC does it up right!

Where else could you find a show as awesome as “The Office” and “Coupling”? (Happily, “The Office” translated nicely to the U.S., although the U.S. version of “Coupling” died a horrible, gruesome death, mostly due to the fact that it sucked like a Hoover)

I bloody love the difference in tone of their programing compared to American stations.

why I'm the biggest BBC fan

Because in my head, I live in London. I listen to BBC news, I use their website all the time, I love British humour, and can even do a fairly good British accent.
