Here is the “The House of the Devil” plot description:

From writer and director Ti West comes “The House of the Devil”: a satanic thriller set in the 1980s starring Jocelin Donahue (J.T. Petty’s forthcoming “The Burrowers”), indie ingénue Greta Gerwig (“Hannah Takes the Stairs,” “Baghead”), Tom Noonan (“Snow Angels,” “Manhunter”), Mary Woronov (“Eating Raoul,” “The Devil’s Rejects”), AJ Bowen (“The Signal”) and Dee Wallace (“E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial,” Rob Zombie’s “Halloween”).

Sam (Donahue) is a pretty college sophomore who’s so desperate to earn some cash for a deposit on an apartment that she accepts a babysitting job even after she finds out there is no baby. Mr. and Mrs. Ulman (cult actors Noonan and Woronov) are the older couple who lure Sam out to their creeky Victorian mansion deep in the woods just in time for a total lunar eclipse.

Megan (Gerwig) is Sam’s best friend who gives her a ride out to the house and reluctantly leaves her there despite suspecting that something is amiss. While Victor (Bowen) at first seems like just a creepy guy lurking around the house, he quickly makes it clear that Sam will end this night in a bloody fight for her life.

It’s time for scary movies to be scary again. This movie doesn’t look like it will disappoint!

Effective Scare Tactic

The most effective scare tactic in a movie is that Mary Woronov was my sister in law for several years and we are still friends. Just saw her in LA in August,

Dead Again

The most effect scare tactic in a scary movie, is having everyone think the killer is death, only to have him get up for one more scare. another scare tactic is when someone is looking for a killer/monster ,a cat/person will jump out and scare the person right before the real killer strike.

Horror scare tactic?

The anticipation - seriously, nothing like building up to a moment when it’s most unexpected because by now we’ve seen all the tactics played out - shower scene, car parked in the woods, etc. so filmmakers really have to work on building up to a moment rather than the actual moment itself.

House of the Devil!

The smash cut to something loud and scary. A la “Jacob’s Ladder.”

Makeup and special effects to create a visually disturbing image that will stick in your mind well after you’ve seen the movie. Example: the puss squirting out of that girl’s burnt eye socket in Hostle.
