CHICAGO – Yep, “Busy” is her nickname, and that describes Elizabeth Jean “Busy” Philipps in October of 2018. Besides releasing a memoir, “This Will Only Hurt a Little,” Ms. Philipps also has launched the talk show “Busy Tonight” on the E! Channel, also with her regular slate of prime acting gigs.

She was born in the nearby Chicago suburb of Oak Park, and a former babysitter gave her the nickname Busy. She attended Loyola Marymount College (Los Angeles), the same school as future “Freaks and Geeks” co-star Linda Cardellini, and they reunited on that legendary show (1999) with co-stars James Franco, Seth Rogen, Jason Segel and Martin Starr. She went on to appear in “Dawson’s Creek” and have a brief run on “ER,” and has been featured in the films “White Chicks” (2004), “He’s Just Not That Into You” (2009), “The Gift” (2015) and this year’s Amy Schumer-starring “I Feel Pretty.”

This month has been particularly notable for the release of her new book “This Will Only Hurt a Little,” a memoir about her adventures in Hollywoodland. The book got some buzz regarding an anecdote about James Franco’s behavior on the set of “Freaks and Geeks,’ which Philipps dismissed as missing the context of the whole book. Also, “Busy Tonight,” her new talk show, premiered on October 28th, 2018, with a bevy of gifts from the other talk show hosts, including Stephen Colbert, Seth Meyers, Jimmy Kimmel, Samantha Bee and Conan O’Brien (who wrapped up Andy Richter for her).

”This Will Only Hurt a Little” by Busy Philipps is available at Anderson’s Bookshop or wherever books are sold. “Busy Tonight” airs Sunday through Wednesday nights on the E! Channel.
