Tribeca 2018: Sarah Jessica Parker Shines in ‘Blue Night’

NEW YORK CITY – Although many people will never think of Sarah Jessica Parker in any other role than Carrie Bradshaw of “Sex and the City,” the actor makes a major breakout with her new film, “Blue Night,” which premiered (naturally for her) at the 17th Tribeca Film Festival in New York City on April 19th, 2018.

“Blue Night” is set in New York City, and can be reasonable described as “Carrie Bradshaw through the looking glass.” Parker portrays Vivienne, a jazz singer whose career has always taken precedent over her life. She receives some devastating news, and because she is estranged from her mother, daughter and ex-husband, she has few resources to turn towards. The film follows her character through 24 hours as she processes her news, which includes a guest vocal at an NYC jazz club. The film also features Renée Zellweger, Taylor Kinney, Common and Jacqueline Bisset.

Sarah Jessica Parker began her career as a Broadway baby, making her debut on a New York stage at age 11 in “The Innocents.” She was also one of the earliest “Annies” in that musical. In 1982, she debuted on television in the cult show “Square Pegs,” and her first major film role came two years later in the original “Footloose.” Over the next 12 years, she did notable films – “L.A. Story,” “Honeymoon in Vegas,” “Miami Rhapsody’ and “If Lucy Fell” – but it was the breakout in the HBO series “Sex and the City” in 1998 that made her a cultural influencer, airing for six seasons and two movies. Ms. Parker is currently in another HBO offering called “Divorce.”
