CHICAGO – The Asian Pop-Up Cinema Series, spotlighting a variety of diverse Asian films, premieres its 2016 Fall Season with the South Korean film, “Sori: Voice of the Heart,” directed by Lee Ho-Jae. The director will make an appearance at the screening, beginning at 1:30pm on Saturday, Sep 17th, 2016, at the Wilmette Theatre in Willmette, Ill. (details below).

“Sori: Voice of the Heart” is a science fiction film, as a grief stricken father (Lee Sung-Min) uses the help of an artificial intelligent-loaded communications satellite – he finds it washed up on the beach – to find his missing and presumed dead daughter. The road picture aspect features NASA and South Korean officials looking for the downed satellite, and a grieving father finding some solace through the journey. This second feature from director Lee Ho-Jae is what The Hollywood Reporter called a…“peculiarly engaging and engagingly peculiar genre mash-up, with a semi-tragic undercurrent that the Korean film industry does so well.”

The Asian Pop-Up Cinema series – founded by Chicago film program veteran Sophia Wong Boccio – is a revolving showcase of diverse Asian films, highlighting Cantonese, Mandarin, Japanese and Korean offerings with English subtitles. As Asian Pop-Up Cinema Founder Sophia Boccio Wong told HollywoodChicago.com in May, “The films reflect the societies and culture of the countries that we show, either historically or in a more contemporary manner. But what is most apparent is that the issues that are portrayed in the films are more universal, and has common elements with all societies. I think these movies are not trying to say anything different, they are trying to tell us we’re all the same.”

“Sori: Voices from the Heart,” is the Fall Season Premiere of the Asian Pop-Up Cinema series, and will screen on Saturday, September 17th, 2016, at 1:30pm, at the Wilmette Theatre, 1122 Central Avenue, Wilmette, Illinois. Director Lee Ho-Jae will make an appearance at the screening. For more information, click here.
