Exclusive Portraits: Woody Allen, Parker Posey on the Chicago Red Carpet for ‘Irrational Man’

“Irrational Man” is Woody Allen’s 47th film as director, an amazing output for an American filmmaker, and unlikely to be duplicated for mainstream releases in the future. He began with “What’s Up, Tiger Lily?” in 1966, won an Oscar for directing Annie Hall (1977) and has written or co-written every screenplay he has ever filmed. “Irrational Man” is another Woody Allen contemplative film, set on a college campus, regarding a philosophy professor (Joaquin Phoenix) who shakes himself out of a case of severe ennui by concocting a life scenario that has implications. Parker Posey portrays a fellow faculty member who gets caught in the professor’s web.

Posey is an actress who has never compromised in her performances, and has created several memorable and quirky characters, mostly in independent films. Her first notable film was “Dazed and Confused” in 1993, but she also was unforgettable in “Party Girl” (1995), “Kicking and Screaming” (1995), “Waiting for Guffman” (1996), “The House of Yes” (1997) and “Happy Tears” (2009). She works frequently with Christopher Guest – the director of “Guffman” – and has been cast in the next Woody Allen film project.
