CHICAGO – You have to love how Warner Bros. takes every opportunity to create holiday season collector’s sets for their hit franchises. It makes sense to have lavish sets for films like “Harry Potter” but I picture people sitting around trying to figure out what physical collectibles to include in some of their sets and I have to laugh. Whoever came up with air fresheners and White Castle coasters for “Harold & Kumar” deserves a raise.

In all seriousness, there’s absolutely no reason to pick up this set or give it as a gift if you or your loved one already owns the three stoner comedies “Harold & Kumar Go To White Castle,” “Harold & Kumar Escape From Guantanamo Bay,” and “A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas.” There’s nothing new to the actual Blu-ray other than the convenience of having all three releases in one case. And that air-freshened, taxi cab smell. The air fresheners, which are thematically related to the films, smell awful. And the coasters couldn’t be cheaper. It’s about the movies, three comedies that have always played better for me than for most critics. They’re crude, foul, silly, and ridiculous but I’ve always admired their willingness to go to extremes for a laugh while I also think that Kal Penn and John Cho’s comic timing is seriously underrated. If you agree, make some space for some White Castle coasters on your coffee table. They class up the joint.
