“Almost Famous” in a fictional film memoir from writer and director Cameron Crowe. Drawing on his experiences as a 15-year-old writer for Rolling Stone Magazine, Crowe creates a representative character named William (Patrick Fugit), who is assigned by the magazine to interview the members of the band Stillwater, led by wild man Russell Hammond (Billy Crudup). Along the way he gets some life lessons, some of which are courtesy of band groupie Penny Lane (Kate Hudson). “Almost Famous” won the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay and garnered nominations for Hudson and Frances McDormand.
