    Invasion of the Body snatchers

It has always been my favorite version of the movie, in spite of all the remakes, the original always remains the best.

    Rain Man

I saw Rain Man for the first time when I was about 12 years old. I rented it and watched it every single day I had it. Dustin Hoffman was engulfed in his character. The movie was full of big laughs and drama. The movie, itself, is so quotable. Also, it helped other people understand a disorder that many people have today.

    West Side Story!

Though musicals are often seen as somewhat shallow, West Side Story proves that social commentary can be simultaneously funny and tragic and yes, even involve lots of singing.

    Some Like It Hot

It’s a tough call between “Raging Bull,” “Rain Man” and “Some Like It Hot,” but I have to go with the last because of the Chicago connection and the fact that I saw it when I was young, and the mix of the St. Valentine’s Day Massacre, Marilyn Monroe looking as good as I’ve seen her, Tony Curtis’ cartoonishly over-the-top channeling of Cary Grant, Jack Lemmon in a typical sterling performance — whether comedy or drama, Jack really stood out — and the (always funny to a kid) cross-dressing can still make me laugh out loud.

You’ve got to be f**king kidding me!

    Understood, but...

…to “publicly” reiterate the point I made in my email to you, your contest instructions explicitly told contestants to “respond with (their) favorite film among that list of 20 and a compelling reason why,” and that particular entrant did neither. Hardly an encouragement for others to put any thought whatsoever into their responses, n’est-ce pas? And thanks for your comment about my writing.

    Extremely hard choice

For me, it was a tie up between The Apartment, A Fistful of Dollars, and Raging Bull. Sadly, there are still a few films that I’ve yet to see on the list! The Apartment is an incredible film, with Jack Lemmon memorable as always under the superb direction of Billy Wilder. A Fistful of Dollars was also a monumental film. It reinvented the Western Genre, and brought Ennio Morricone & Clint Eastwood to the masses. The films only downside is Sergio Leone blatantly ripping off Kurosawa’s Yojimbo. But, above all, of the movies on the list that I have seen, I’d have to choose Scorsese’s Raging Bull as my favorite film from the list. The best Actor/Director combo of all time, and at the top of their game. It’s a gritty, brutal, yet fantastic film.

Has to be West Side Story.

Has to be West Side Story. My name is Maria and when I was a kid, I just hated that name - no one else had that name in our neighborhood or school. But then West Side Story appeared and my name wasn’t so “odd” anymore and I wasn’t teased as much (other than people serenading me with “my” song!).
