CHICAGO – It may still seem like a while away, what with season finales of tons of shows coming in the next months, summer blockbuster films to look forward to, and almost seven full months of waiting, but Showtime has officially given the date for fans of “Homeland” and “Dexter” to circle. Sunday, September 30 will be the return of both shows on the premium cable channel.

The return for “Dexter” will be the beginning of the seventh season of the show. Starring Michael C. Hall, the show follows a serial killer that works as a blood analyst for the Miami Metro Police, choosing victims that have done wrong to others, but stayed out of legal trouble. Six seasons strong, Dexter is starting to have trouble keeping his “dark passenger” a secret to others and the ones he loves.

“Homeland” stars Claire Danes (who basically swept every award show for her performance) and received the Golden Globe for Best Television Drama this past year. The show follows Carrie Mathison (Danes) a bi-polar CIA officer who is investigating a rescued American soldier that she believes may be involved in a terrorist plot. The critically praised show has only had one season on the air, as September 30 will mark the premiere of season two.

While it may be far in advance, these are two big enough shows to pull out the red sharpie and circle your calendar. “Dexter” will premiere at 8 p.m. CST, while “Homeland” will follow in the 9 p.m. CST time slot.
