CHICAGO – You can’t say AMC moved at a zombie’s pace to renew its hit drama for a third season. Just two episodes into season 2 of the hit AMC series “The Walking Dead,” and the network has already picked up the show for a third season.

AMC announced the news in a press release today. The release also included a brief word from AMC President Charlie Collier: “Today we are pleased to announce that the ‘dead’ shall live as we proudly renew ‘The Walking Dead’ for a third season on AMC and, globally, with our terrific partners at Fox International Channels,” said Collier. “We are thankful for everyone’s contribution in front of and behind the camera as we continue to make “The Walking Dead” a unique television experience. And, we are so proud as it continues to set viewership records around the world.”

The viewership records Collier refers to is the record numbers the second season of the show has brought in within the 18-49 age demographic, which includes a record 10 million viewers internationally that watched the season two premiere in 122 different countries. The show now has more 18-49 year olds watching than any other basic cable drama in television history.

Other than viewership, “The Walking Dead” can also boast about its rave reviews it has received from critics all around the world, including a 4.5 out of 5 rating from Hollywood Chicago’s own Brian Tallerico.

AMC’s “The Walking Dead” is currently in the second season and episodes can be watched on Sunday nights at 8 p.m. CST. Episode three will premiere this coming Sunday, October 30 and the first half of the second season will conclude Sunday, November 27.
