Here is the plot description for “Viva Riva!”:

“Viva Riva!” is an action-filled neo-noir about a Kinasha hood who’s plunged into a brutal world of revenge, lust and violence. Riva (Patsha Bay Mukuna) is a small-time operator who has just returned to his hometown of Kinshasa, Congo after a decade away with a major score: a fortune in hijacked gasoline.

A man with charm and ambition in equal measure – along with wads of cash in his enthusiastic hands – Riva is soon entranced by beautiful night club denizen Nora (Manie Malone). She’s the kept woman of local gangster Azor (Diplome Amekindra) and he’s keeping his eye on Riva and his money.

Into the mix comes the Angolan crime lord Cesar (Hoji Fortuna). He’s hungry for revenge as he relentlessly seeks the return of his stolen shipment of gasoline. Kinshasa’s lawless and steamy environs get even hotter as everyone sets out to snatch whatever it is they want despite the consequences.

CHICAGO – What is life but a constant climb? The Brown Paper Box Co., one of the most vital storefront theater groups in Chicago, asks that question and more in the significant “Grace, Or the Art of Climbing.” Using a woman’s journey through some difficult situations, the parallels of “the climb” become a artfully performed story that is all inspiration and uplift. The play runs through July 7th, 2019, at Stage 773 in the Belmont Avenue Theater District in Chicago. For more information and tickets, click here.

  • Elizabeth Laidlaw

CHICAGO – The recent limited series “The Red Line” on CBS-TV was notable for a couple elements – it was set in Chicago and it featured Chicago actors in major roles.
