How Captain America Got his Name

Nadine Zielinski

Steve Rogers became a soldier for the US Army so he could fight the Germans. He was turned away because he was so week but then US Army Generl Chester Phillips asked if he was interested in participating in an experimental Super Soldier serum project. The experiment was successful and so Steve Rogers became the first Super Soldier. Since he was fighting for the US and his uniform contained the American Flag, they decided that the codename for this would be Captain America.

Captain America

After the outbreak of World War II in Europe, a young patriot named Steve Rogers attempted to serve his country by joining the army. He was rejected, due to his scrawny and frail physique, and was classified 4-F. He gained the attention of a man who was searching for test subjects for a top secret experiment to create a Super Soldier.

As a result of Operation: Rebirth, Steve Rogers gained speed, strength, endurance and agility that was nearly superhuman. His abilities, unwavering courage, and “never say die” attitude eventually made Captain America a living legend.

Captain America was created on the cusp of WW2 and was named in response to the popularity of patriotic characters at that time. He was made as not just your regular super hero but as a symbol for the American public as a super human figure of hope and pride.
