Synopsis:

SYMPATHY FOR DELICIOUS marks acclaimed actor Mark Ruffalo’s first foray into directing. This inspired and unusual film tells the story of Dean O’Dwyer (Christopher Thornton), also known as “Delicious D,” an up-and-coming DJ on the underground music scene in Los Angeles. When a motorcycle accident leaves Dean paralyzed, he abandons his turntables for a wheelchair as his once promising career disappears before his eyes.

Forced to live out of his car on skid row, Dean begins his descent into depression when he meets Father Joe Roselli (Mark Ruffalo), a passionate young priest. Father Joe introduces Dean to the world of faith-healing, an unlikely way for him to begin his quest to walk again. He soon discovers that he possesses the otherworldly power to heal people, but in an odd twist of fate, he is utterly unable to heal himself.

Despite Father Joe’s warnings, Dean angrily decides to use his newfound gift for fame and fortune. He joins a rock band led by charismatic front man The Stain (Orlando Bloom) with bassist Ariel (Juliette Lewis), and manager Nina Hogue (Laura Linney). But his newfound notoriety is unable to cure the hurt that encompasses his life. To find true healing, Dean must ultimately confront his worst demons and come to terms with his own humanity.

SYMPATHY FOR DELICIOUS is an edgy rock-and-roll spiritual journey that explores the lasting effects of tragedy, the search for meaning, and the ultimate redemptive power of compassion.”

Question for Christopher Thornton

From Matt F.:

What inspired you to write this script? Was it influenced by your experiences in church theatre?

Question

Question for Mark Ruffalo. What advice would you give to first time director?

Question

What is the best advice and the worst advice you have ever received, from whom did you receive the advice, did you take or follow the advice, and if so why or why not?

Question for Orlando Bloom:

Question for Orlando Bloom: Having worked in two noted successful cinematic franchises (The Lord of the Rings, The Pirates of the Caribbean) does work on such projects as this prompt you to be more relaxed when you’re on camera knowing it’s all about you the director and your co-stars, not the weight that comes with juggling such factors as the merchandising, fanatics discussing and dissecting minutia in online forums, the cgi effects which you have to react to and the like?

Question for Orlando Bloom

For Orlando Bloom:

Hi Orlando. First let me say congratulations on recently becoming a father. I’m sure your adorable son will quickly win the hearts of the ladies, just like his father has.

In Sympathy for Delicious, you play the sexy front man of a rock group. While portraying The Stain, was your character inspired by a favorite musician? What kind of role has music played in your life and do you know how to play any instruments?

Questions for Mark Ruffalo

What was the biggest challenge in Directing, “Sympathy for Delicious?”
Is it more rewarding to direct and have more input into the final work, than acting?

Thanks,

Katherine K.

questions

question for MARK: I read somewhere that you went on a few hundred auditions before finally landing a role. I have a friend who is in a similar situation, and I was wondering what you did differently in order to land that first role, or is it all just persistence.

questions for ORLANDO: How did you deal with the pressure of jumping into such a big film like the LOTR without having been in anything prior and how did you manage to stay so grounded when being thrust into the hollywood spotlight. I was also wondering how you choose your films, and whats next for you?

Question for Juliette

Hey, I just wanted to say you are great in What’s Eating Gilbert Grape. Any plans of reuniting with Depp and DiCaprio down the road? That would be awesome. That’s all. Thanks.

Question for Juliette

What was it like working for Woody Allen on Husbands and Wives and that? Was the material hard, difficult particularly considering you weren’t even 20 years old yet. And would you like to work with him again?

  • Falling Skies S2

CHICAGOTNT’s “Falling Skies” isn’t quite the mega-hit that the network and Steven Spielberg hoped it would be but it has an incredibly loyal following. Recognizing that fact, Warner Bros. has put together an extensive set for the second season of the Noah Wyle sci-fi show, loaded with special features. Fans will be happy and those who may be just getting into the program, now airing its third season on TNT, may be more enticed to catch up thanks to the quality of this release.

  • It's a Disaster DVD

CHICAGO – The summer movie season has barely begun, and I’m already sick to death of the apocalypse. It seems to have pervaded every mainstream genre, from action-packed thrillers to raunchy comedies. I’ll take a hilarious mess like “This Is the End” over grim sci-fi junk like “Oblivion” and “After Earth” any day, simply because it delivers its cautionary message with tongue-in-cheek exuberance.
