Film News: Universal Changes Title of Ron Howard’s ‘What You Don’t Know’ to ‘The Dilemma’

CHICAGO – After being unofficially named the “Untitled Cheating Project” and “Cheaters,” Universal Pictures told HollywoodChicago.com on Thursday that the official name of Ron Howard’s Chicago-filmed picture has changed from “What You Don’t Know” to “The Dilemma”.

Universal officially titled the film as “What You Don’t Know” on another Thursday (July 15, 2010) just two weeks ago. “The Dilemma” stars Vince Vaughn, Kevin James, Jennifer Connelly, Winona Ryder, Channing Tatum, Queen Latifah, Chelcie Ross, Amy Morton, Gary Houston and Connor Del Rio from director Ron Howard and writer Allan Loeb.

Ron Howard has also directed “Angels & Demons,” “Frost/Nixon,” “The Da Vinci Code,” “Cinderella Man,” “A Beautiful Mind,” “Edtv,” “Ransom,” “Apollo 13,” “Backdraft,” “Parenthood,” “Cocoon,” “Splash” and “Grand Theft Auto”. Here is the comedy’s official synopsis:

Vince Vaughn and Kevin James headline an all-star comedy from director Ron Howard and producer Brian Grazer about a man who finds out that what you don’t say to a friend is just as important as what you do. Jennifer Connelly, Winona Ryder, Channing Tatum and Queen Latifah join them in “The Dilemma”: a story of how far you can bend a brotherly bond before it snaps.

Since college, confirmed bachelor Ronny (Vaughn) and happily married Nick (James) have been through thick and thin. Now partners in an auto design firm, the two pals are vying to land a dream project that would launch their company. With Ronny’s girlfriend, Beth (Connelly), and Nick’s wife, Geneva (Ryder), by their sides, they’re unbeatable.

But Ronny’s world is turned upside down when he inadvertently sees Geneva out with another man and makes it his mission to get answers. As the amateur investigation dissolves his world into comic mayhem, he learns that Nick has a few secrets of his own. Now, with the clock ticking and pressure mounting on the biggest presentation of their careers, Ronny must decide what will happen if he reveals the truth to his best friend.

Principal photography for “The Dilemma” began on May 25, 2010 and runs through Aug. 6, 2010. After filming all around Chicago, the project most recently filmed at the United Center. We have learned that the scenes used up to 900 extras as Chicago Blackhawks fans on a single day. “The Dilemma,” which will be released on Jan. 14, 2011, will film this Friday in Chicago’s Chinatown.

Filming right now in Albany Park

They’re setting up to film around here in Albany Park, bordered by Lawrence, Leland, Kimball and Drake.

In fact, I can see the trailers in front of my home.

Are they still filming there?

Its now the 7th and I am at work…You stated that the trailers are in front of your home. Are they still filming there? Do you know how long they will be there?

Worked as an extra at McCormick Place

The production company of this film is so cheap it’s pitiful. I was there for fourteen and a half hours one day working as an extra, and during that time we got one meal break, and the “meal” if you could call it that was a small, dry, stale sandwich, and about two ounces of pasta salad. We had to beg for some water to wash this crap down. The people involved in this production are all millionaires. They treated us worse than animals. They should be ashamed of themselves.

TV, DVD, BLU-RAY & THEATER REVIEWS

  • Jack Reacher with Tom Cruise

CHICAGO – “Jack Reacher” doesn’t work as an action movie. However, if you approach the mannered dialogue and dark storytelling as a noir, which is what I believe the writer and director (if not the marketing team at Paramount) intended, then there’s a lot to like here. It’s a stylized, slick, well-made ride with some crackling dialogue, charismatic performances, and heavy doses of style.

  • Safe Haven

CHICAGO – At its best, Lasse Hallstrom’s “Safe Haven,” based on the book by the insanely popular Nicholas Sparks, is merely safe, Lifetime Channel TV Movie junk. At its worst, it’s pretty offensive and exploitative of women actually stuck in abusive situations and men forced into single parenthood after losing a spouse. As he has done before, Sparks takes real-world issues and turns them into manipulative devices. Hallstrom (“Chocolat”) has enough filmmaking skill to keep it from getting too boring despite the attempts on the part of the two remarkably dull leads to put you to sleep.
