This just in from Sony…

Prepare for side-splitting laughter and heart-pumping action when Sony Pictures Home Entertainment (SPHE) releases Paul Blart: Mall Cop on high definition Blu-ray Disc™, single-disc DVD, and UMD on May 19, 2009. The $137 million box office hit from Happy Madison Productions is packed with deleted scenes, hilarious outtakes, featurettes on the making of the movie and a commentary.

The release also marks SPHE’s introduction of an eco-friendly ultralight DVD case on single-disc DVDs. The new packaging is designed to use approximately 20 percent less plastic than a standard-weight DVD case and reduce the DVD case carbon footprint by 20 percent. SPHE is launching the new packaging domestically with the release of Paul Blart: Mall Cop, and will continue to roll out the eco-friendly initiatives on a global level.

SPHE is committed to reducing our carbon footprint and is making great progress in reducing the environmental impact of packaged media,” said Lexine Wong, Senior Executive Vice President of Worldwide Marketing, SPHE. “By utilizing a more eco-friendly packaging, launching with Paul Blart: Mall Cop, we hope to eliminate an estimated two million pounds of annual carbon emissions in North American alone by the end of the year.”

“The intelligence and energy that Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has brought to this ecologically valuable initiative is inspiring and sets an example for all manufacturers of DVD packaging,” said Dr. Allen Hershkowitz, a senior scientist at the Natural Resources Defense Council. “This is a valuable step in the right direction and should encourage all DVD manufacturers to take action against global warming, to protect intact forests, and conserve resources. NRDC supports SPHE’s initiative to promote positive changes in the way businesses and individuals think about our Earth, and, especially, how we act.”

In addition to being eco-friendly, the Paul Blart: Mall Cop Blu-ray and DVD offer fans several bonus features on Kevin James’ career and his thoughts on being a mall cop, the film’s extreme sports actors and stunts, and behind-the-scenes featurettes on the making of the film! BD-Live users will also be able to participate in a peer-to-peer chat function called cinechat, which is exclusive to the Blu-ray disc. The Blu-ray disc will also include a Digital Copy of the film.

Paul Blart: Mall Cop Synopsis

With a heart that won’t quit, a stomach that won’t stop gurgling and a self-sworn oath to protect his turf, he’s Paul Blart: Mall Cop. Mild-mannered Paul Blart (Kevin James, “The King of Queens”) has always had huge dreams of becoming a State Trooper. Until then, he patrols the local mall as a security guard. With his closely cropped moustache, personal transporter and gung-ho attitude, only Blart seems to take his job seriously. All of that changes when a team of thugs raid the mall and take hostages. Untrained, unarmed and a super-size target—Blart decides now’s the time for the big guy to show everyone he’s the biggest cop of the mall as he tries to save the day.
