Synopsis

The prequel story traces the origins of the centuries-old blood feud between the aristocratic vampires known as Death Dealers and their onetime slaves, the Lycans. In the Dark Ages, a young Lycan named Lucian (Sheen) emerges as a powerful leader who rallies the werewolves to rise up against Viktor (Nighy), the cruel vampire king who has enslaved them. Lucian is joined by his secret lover, Sonja (Mitra), in his battle against the Death Dealer army and his struggle for Lycan freedom.

UNDERWORLD: RISE OF THE LYCANS marks the directorial debut of Patrick Tatopoulos, visual effects supervisor on Underworld and Underworld: Evolution. The screenplay was written by Danny McBride (Underworld 1&2) and the writing team of Dirk Blackman and Howard McCain (the upcoming Conan remake). Original series director Len Wiseman (Live Free or Die Hard, Underworld 1&2) returns as producer this time, also sharing a “Story By” credit. The film was produced by Lakeshore Entertainment and is distributed by Screen Gems. It has a run time of approximately 92 minutes and has been rated R for bloody violence and some sexuality.
