Austen’s popular novel has been adapted for stage and screen many times. Christina Calvit’s adaptation originally premiered at Chicago’s Lifeline Theatre in 1986, and the production won three Joseph Jefferson Awards including one for New Adaptation. Calvit has written over a dozen award-winning adaptations which have been performed throughout the United States, including “Angus,” “Full-Frontal Snogging” and “The Talisman Ring.” “Pride and Prejudice” tells the story of Elizabeth Bennet and her courtship with the wealthy Mr. Darcy. There are five unmarried daughters in the Bennet household. When two handsome young men move into the neighborhood, Elizabeth’s mother, Mrs. Bennet, decides that one of them would be a good match for her oldest daughter, Jane. Austen’s characters have delighted generations of readers, and audiences will be won over by Calvit’s straightforward and humorous telling of their story.
